I learned about this on Tuesday, but have only really gotten the time tonight to post.

On December 1st, Bruce Trigger died of cancer. I'd link to an article, or anything, if one existed. While I may have not agreed with him on certain points, "Early Civilizations" is one of my favorite theory based works.

The archaeological community is a little lessened without him.

So, I'm in a cleaning/organizing mood, and in true form my brain is thinking about the library. And even more focused, the display case. I have an idea about what we can do with it, since it's so fucking huge that finding one thing to rest it on that isn't the useless piece of furniture it's currently on is such a major problem. Let's just get two things that we can join, via home depot, and reinforce enough to make them viable. Would that work?

I have a small favor to ask

Hey all,

I know that this is the type of entry that most people would f-lock, but we need as many prayers as we can get.

http://www.newsday.com/news/local/newyork/am-swee0612,0,3517087.story?coll=ny-top-headlines

http://www.silive.com/news/advance/index.ssf?/base/news/1150118115130230.xml&coll=1

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/425943p-359293c.html

Her name is Amanda Forsyth. I've known her for most of her life. She's one of the little sisters of my childhood best friend, Jen, who lived down the block from me. As of right now, we're all waiting for the test results to determine whether or not she's brain dead, in which case she will be taken off life support and her organs donated. We're all hoping and praying for a miracle.

So, any good thoughts, prayers, anything are needed right now. So very needed.

I am so sick and tired of nearly every person who I consider a friend, and who considers me one as well, doesn't even take one minute of consideration when it comes to me. Apparently, I'm not a real person with real concerns, and it's my fate in life to fight tooth and nail for even a glimmer of recognition for anything I've ever done, even helping those so called friends.

So, you know what, I'm about ready to give it all fucking up.

rant space $.25

Now, I've had the idea of creating a comics reviewing/ranting blog for a while now. I've even tossed around names for ideas and topics to rant on. But, now, with the cancellation of yet another book I adore, I think it's about time for me to get moving on it. I know that nobody would be reading it, but still, I feel that I need some type of venue to express my opinion about what's going on in the comics world, because I am the section of the readership which doesn't get any acknowledgment, any sort of works aimed at, or any sense that their opinions count.

I'm a female comics geek. A huge comics geek. I don't read books aimed at females (mainly since "aimed at females" means "aimed at twelve year old girls but read by middle aged men"). I don't read indie things, or things written by people because of what else they've done, like the Buffy comics and the sort. I read Green Lantern and Flash and X-Men. I'm at home in both cosmic Marvel and cosmic DC discussions.

And I'm sick and tired of the books I like being canceled because they don't have fanboy favorites in them, have female characters who aren't sex symbols, are well written, and push the boundaries of what comics are. I'm sick and tired of female main characters, the few there are, wearing bathing suits and heels, while the males have more common spandex. I'm tired of the lack of gritty female characters, and I'm sick to the gills of characters like Emma Frost and Supergirl, male fantasies, while I can't name more than two female characters I can even stand.

I don't read comics femmeslash for the single reason that there aren't enough characters I like enough who are female that exist in the same universe to slash. I have no favorite female characters. And I've been dealing with this shite for years.

It's because of this that I have no problem disappearing from the comics world whenever it gets to much, because it's not like I'm an important part of the readership, anyway, right?

I want Sawada Shin to exist in reality

Watching both seasons of the Gokusen Live Action has dragged me back into what may possibly be my favorite manga/series of all time. Honestly, I adore this series in any form, and it does exist in three currently (four if you separate the live action series since they don't have the same student characters).

Now, some of you may be aware that this is the series for which I have my HET-OTP of Sawada Shin x Yankumi. Well, watching the live action has taught me that this OTP only exists in the manga and anime canons, because in the live action, dear god is Shin gay. And it can't just be blamed on Matsumoto Jun(who is frelling hot, though his hair in Hana Yori Dango scares the shit out of me). And don't get me started on the slash potential of Gokusen 2 between Ryu and Hayato.

So, now I have so much more slash fodder for Gokusen, if only the fandom existed. Me thinks I have a plan. *shifty eyes* By this time tomorrow I think I may pick up Shin x Uchi at 1sentence, because LA-verse that is so hot.

I would show those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about screen caps, but I'm lazy, so just trust me on this.

Why isn't 52 here now for me to read?

Diving headfirst back into Marvel fandom is never a good thing, honestly. Considering that I tend to remember things I liked from back in my first days, but only sometimes remember important things like the author, and then start on a mystical quest through the internet to find them, it really isn't. It makes me feel so bloody ancient to be looking for things that disappeared from the net in ages past, yet here's me searching for them. Like this time and everything it would seem from the hispeed.com sector of the net.

Anyway, I totally blame the other forum comic geeks for this. Totally. Just like I blame them for all the ficc-y plannings I've done (like sketch out some Earth8 things and pull two Marvel things from my ass). Bad influences, the lot of you. I should totally write that Stryfe/Adam X smut as revenge. Um, moving on...

I've also had the amusement of watching as my OCD organizing part of my brain battles my Packrat instincts in terms of culling my stuff (not comics, of course). This has lead to me bagging/boarding, sorting and cataloging my comics collection. This isn't as sad as it seems, I swear.

And to end this disjoined ramble, for some reason I have this urge to read JSA, and I have no idea why. Maybe because of Super Gay Obsidian by proxy or something.

That's it. I'm never looking at the DC.com forums EVER again.

"Jason Todd, better leader for the Outsiders"

No, I'm not linking that, since just the text is enough to make one want to swallow their tongue.

I'm now going to reread Young Avengers, again, to cleanse myself.

I just finished rereading Peter David's Captain Marvel run (or Captain Marvel Volume 4, for the worse geeks than me). I forgot how much I truly loved this book, and was so upset when word of the canceling came out of Marvel. And I think most of it exists in trade form, which although I have most of the indv issues, finding them is always a pain. Anyone who has seen my comic piles understands that.

Anyway, I expect I'll be muttering all about this all throughout the weekend, as I am wont to when I reread something I love.

Also, best final issue of ANYTHING EVER.

I figure it's about time to make the ever-famous post-ICON post, right? Just to prove that my life still sucks and all.

ICON wasn't as bad as it could be, but in some ways it was hack-worthy. I mean, I have fun working the table and playing on the dealer's floor and seeing the rest of my wenches, but other than that, no so fun. Anime track screwed me over, which shouldn't be something they'd want to do cosidering my whole exec status within the damn thing. I didn't go to many panels, and honestly not too much interested me either. I spent more money than I should have, but I can understand why I did that considering how shitty I felt throughout the entire thing.

Next year should be interesting, considering the whole co-track thing. Plus the campus chapter, and what may be a recruitment drive for the convention. Fun stuff, I know. Being me, I do want to hit the ground running, so let's see how that goes.

Anyway, I should be getting back to the studying I've been avoiding. Or procrastinate more by watching CSI. One or the other. And hey, this just might be the start of me making actual lj enteries that have meaning, one may never know.
